About Us

Created in 2010, Bikram Yoga D15 exclusively offers Bikram Method classes, a 90-minute series built on the principles of intensity, frequency, and precision.

We are an independently owned and operated small business with no franchise agreement with the founder of this method. For 10 years our team of well-trained, qualified teachers have been guiding our community of students through this practice with conviction and integrity. We look forward to seeing you on your mat!

What Bikram yoga does for your body

Yoga changes the construction of the body from the inside out. So before you change it, you have to heat it up to soften it, because a warm body is a flexible body. Then you can reshape the body any way you want.

By the end of a Bikram yoga class, you will have worked every muscle, tendon, joint, ligament, internal organ, and gland while systematically moving fresh, oxygenated blood to 100% of the body. These postures work synergistically and cumulatively to put the body back on track and in balance. Bikram yoga builds strength, balance and flexibility by gently stretching and massaging the spine, muscles, tendons, joints, and all internal organs of the body. Bones are strengthened, joints are opened and lubricated, and muscles are strengthened, toned, and made more flexible. Lung capacity is expanded, leading to greater vitality, it also teaches us how to use that oxygen properly – we learn to control the breath through pranayama.

The detoxing part of Bikram Yoga

Bikram yoga flushes away the waste products, the toxins of all the glands and organs of your body. It provides a natural irrigation of the body through the circulatory system, with the help of the respiratory system. It brings nourishments to every cell of your body so that each one can perform its function and keep your body healthy. Bikram Yoga also employs heat to further that cleaning process: When you sweat, impurities are flushed out of the body through the skin.

What can be achieved by doing Bikram Yoga

Regular practice of this series of postures results in the healing and repair of injuries and illnesses, weight loss, and an incredible sense of well-being. Our instructors offer beginning tips for our newcomers in each class as well as those with any ailments. We truly believe that if you do the best you can (however much or little that may be) that you will receive the benefits. Whatever your age, injury, or prior yoga experience (if any at all), this yoga will benefit your body and mind in ways you never imagined possible! We enjoy connecting with our students and listening to their needs to ensure an excellent Bikram Yoga experience.

Bikram Choudhury – Founder

Yogiraj Bikram Choudhury is the founder of the worldwide Yoga College of India™. Born in Calcutta in 1946, Bikram began Yoga at the age of four with India’s most-renowned physical culturist at that time, Bishnu Ghosh, the younger brother of Paramahansa Yogananda (Author of the most popular book on Yoga, The Autobiography of a Yogi, and founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship in Los Angeles).

Bikram practiced Yoga at least four to six hours every day at Ghosh’s College of Physical Education in Calcutta. At the age of thirteen, he won the National India Yoga Championship. He was undefeated for the following three years and retired as the undisputed All-India National Yoga Champion. At seventeen, an injury to his knee during a weight-lifting accident brought the prediction from leading European doctors that he would never walk again. Not accepting their pronouncement, he had himself carried back to Bishnu Ghosh’s school, for he knew that if anyone could help to heal his knee, it was his teacher. Six months later, his knee had totally recovered.

Ghosh was a celebrated physical culturist and the first to scientifically document Yoga’s ability to cure chronic physical ailments and heal the body. Bikram was asked by Ghosh to start several Yoga schools in India. The schools were so successful that at Bishnu’s request Bikram traveled to Japan and opened two more. He has since brought his curative methods of Yoga therapy around the world.

I’ve been doing it for a year now and I love it. It’s tough but the benefits you receive far outway any of the challenges. I feel stronger, more flexible, and much much healthier. The teachers are great at breaking it down and explaining it. It’s also a very friendly atmosphere with various levels of experience so I don’t feel out of place.

I’ve just finished my first year of Bikram yoga, completed a 30 day challenge and have met a great bunch of people. I have to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. My body has never felt better and my balance and flexibility have improved considerably. A big thanks to Anne-Marie and the other yoga instructors who are both friendly and passionate about Bikram yoga and also create a great atmosphere in the classes.
